Hoops Attendance Tops American Conference Leaderboard

8/9/2018 3:54:00 PM

Wichita State led the American Athletic Conference and ranked 34th nationally in men's basketball attendance during the 2017-18 season, according to the NCAA's official year-end report.

Unofficially, WSU was one of just nine schools that sold out every home date and one of only six that did it in a venue larger than 10,000 seats.

WSU's average attendance of 10,787 was the third-highest in school history – 19 shy of the record set during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons (when the team hosted one fewer home date).

In 2017-18, the Shockers played 15 games in front of capacity crowds at 10,506-seat Charles Koch Arena and also maxed out their downtown date against Oklahoma at 15,004-seat INTRUST Bank Arena.

WSU has landed at No. 34 on the national charts in each of the last two seasons, marking the program's highest finish since the 1982-83 season when it ranked 31st.

The Shockers have led their conference in attendance in each of the last five seasons. They topped the Missouri Valley Conference chart every year from 2014-17.

The American Athletic Conference ranked eighth out of the 32 conferences, averaging 5,569 per date. An average of 8,377 turned out per session at the conference tournament, which was good for seventh place.

Fans wishing to purchase new men's basketball season tickets will soon have an opportunity. The Shockers Ticket Office will have a limited supply of men's basketball season tickets for sale later this month. Move to the front of line by signing up for the waiting list.
