WICHITA, Kan. – No. 24 Wichita State scored four runs in the first inning on the way to an 8-2 win over Central Arkansas on Tuesday evening.
Luke Ritter went 3-for-5 with a run, while
Greyson Jenista went 2-for-3 with a home run and
Noah Croft drove in two.
Starter
Preston Snavely went five innings and gave up one unearned run on one hit with three walks and five strikeouts. Freshman
Jacob Lindemann made his collegiate debut and pitched three shutout innings.
With one out in the first,
Luke Ritter and
Alec Bohm both singled to left field and Ritter scored on
Gunnar Troutwine's single up the middle for a 1-0 Shocker lead.
Greyson Jenista walked to load the bases and
Noah Croft's two-run single scored Bohm and Troutwine for a 3-0 lead.
Josh DeBacker singled to centerfield to score Jenista to push it to 4-0.
Trey Vickers led off with a walk in the second and Ritter singled. After a Bohm fielder's choice, Vickers scored on Troutwine's groundout to increase the Shocker lead to 5-0. A Bear error allowed Bohm to score and make it 6-0.
Dayton Dugas led off the third with a single and scored on
Jordan Boyer's double to put the Shockers up 7-0 and Jenista's solo home run in the fourth made the score 8-0.
UCA took advantage of a Shocker error to score a run in the fifth and cut the lead to 8-1. They added a run in the ninth for the final 8-2 score.
The Shockers are next in action on Wed., April 18 when they host Kansas at 6 p.m. at Eck Stadium.
