DENVER – The Shockers extended their win streak to six with a 4-3 victory over Denver, Friday at the Stapleton Tennis Center.
DOUBLES
Wichita State claimed the doubles point with wins in the first and second flights.
Miroslav Herzan and
Andrea Caligiana knocked off Jesse Ruder- Hook and Matt Summers (7-5), followed by a 6-2 victory for
Murkel Dellien and
Haru Inoue over Mattia Ros and Pedro Del Valle to improve to 2-1 as a duo.
Eddie Stoica and
Andrea Trapani, who came into the match winners of four-straight, went unfinished in flight three.
SINGLES
The Pioneers got on the board with a win by Summers over Frosa (7-5, 6-3) in flight two. Herzan answered in flight four, knocking off Del Valle (6-3, 4-6, 6-1) to improve to 11-7 on the season. Denver didn't go away, claiming a win in the fifth flight where Nunez took down Stoica (7-6, 7-5) to tie the match at two. The Pioneers took the lead , 3-2, when Rios knocked off Inoue in three sets, (1-6, 6-4, 7-5) on court one. Wichita State rallied, winning the final two matches in the third and sixth flights to claim the match. Dellien pushed Ruder-Hook to three sets, coming out with a (3-6, 6-2, 7-5) win. Freshman
Andrea Trapani once again stepped up when it mattered, taking down Lovera in the winner take all match in the sixth flight (7-6, 5-7, 6-3) to give WSU their sixth win in a row.
The Shockers return to action to take on SMU on Friday, April 6 at 4:30 p.m. at the SMU Tennis Complex in Dallas.
