WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State scored a season-high 14 runs on a season-high 17 hits in the 14-3 win over Furman.
Greyson Jenista went 3-for-3, while
Alec Bohm went 2-for-4 with two RBI, Paxton Wallace went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a home run,
Dayton Dugas went 2-for-4 and
Gunnar Troutwine went 2-for-2 with two RBI and a home run.
Starter Liam Eddy went six shutout innings and allowed just two hits with one walk and six strikeouts.
With one out in the first,
Greyson Jenista singled and after an
Alec Bohm fielder's choice, Paxton Wallace hit his first career home run to give the Shockers a 2-0 lead.
Jenista singled with one out in the third and stole second. Bohm followed with a double to right field to score Jenista to push the lead to 3-0.
The Shockers broke it open with five runs in the fourth.
Dayton Dugas led off with a double and scored on a double by
Jordan Boyer.
Gunnar Troutwine followed with a home run to give the Shockers a 6-0 lead. A RBI single by Bohm and a sacrifice fly from
Trey Vickers rounded out the scoring for an 8-0 lead.
Ritter's sacrifice fly in the seventh put WSU up 9-0, but the Paladins broke up the shutout in the eighth. With two outs in the eighth, Furman used four singles and a walk to score three runs to cut the lead to 9-3.
The Shockers added five runs in the eighth on five singles and two walks to go in front 14-3.
The Shockers and Paladins wrap up the series on Sun., March 25 at 11:30 a.m.
