DALLASÂ - The Wichita State women's tennis team wrapped up day one of the SMU Red and Blue Challenge with two wins Friday at the SMU Tennis Complex.
Senior
Sandra Honigova collected a win in singles action for the Shockers, taking down Shura Poppe of Tulsa (7-6, 7-6) in the number two slot.
The No. 14-ranked Shocker duo of
Marta Bellucco and
Fatima Bizhukova knocked off Kulicke and Perez/Lopez of SMU in a one set match, 7-5.
Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva and
Alexandra Lazarova paired up and fell to Traxler and Buss of SMU (6-2), while Honigova and Hsu dropped a close match to Monarrez Yesaki/Hollebeck (6-4).
Bizhukova fell to Tulsa's No. 54 Okalova (7-6, 2-1 ret.), along with Bellucco falling to Martha Matoula in the third slot, 6-2, 7-6. Vera Ploner took down
Alexandra Lazarova 6-2, 6-4, Arianna Capogrosso dropped Saidhujaeva (7-5, 6-4) and
Ting-Ya Hsu fell to Manon Meulenberg of Tulsa 7-6, 6-1.
The Shockers will resume action tomorrow at the SMU Red and Blue Challenge with singles matches against Wyoming and doubles versus Tulsa.
