10/6/2018 4:56:00 PM

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Fatima Bizhukova and Marta Bellucco's historic run came to an end in Saturday's semifinal at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships.

The pair took on Khmelnitckaia and Koch of Kansas in the team's first ever semifinal appearance of the All-American Championships.

The 14th-ranked Shocker duo fell behind early in the first set (2-4) and eventually fell 6-3. The second set remained close the whole way, before Bizhukova and Bellucco dropped a break to the Jayhawk duo (5-6). The tandem broke back (6-6) to force a tiebreaker, where KU prevailed, 7-4.

It was quite a run for the WSU juniors, who compiled a 3-1 record at the historic Riviera ITA All-Americans, clinching the school's first ever semifinal berth at the event. On the week, the two knocked off three top 30 tandems, and punched their ticket to one of the best ITA Fall Tournaments, the Oracle/ITA National Fall Championships in Surprise, Ariz., Nov. 7-11.

HEAD COACH COLIN FOSTER ON....

....Fatya and Marta's play at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships
"To make the semifinals of this event is a great result. Everyone here is good and we played smart, composed tennis throughout the week."

...the semifinal match versus Kansas
"It was a great match today. Kansas just served at a really high level and we didn't get a ton of chances to break, which in turn turns up the pressure on our serve games. We did well to stay with it and finally got some looks on their serve games down the stretch, breaking them twice and then leading 30-0 receiving ahead 6-5 in the second. When we weren't able to convert that opportunity the momentum was back on their side in the tiebreak and Kansas played well to close out the match."
