Koskei Finishes 11th at Pre-Nationals

MADISON, Wis. – The Wichita State cross country program traveled north to compete in the 2018 Wisconsin Pre-Nationals on Saturday.
 
Women's Recap
Winny Koskei highlighted the day for the program finishing 11th overall in the women's Cardinal 6K race with a personal best time of 20:28.9.  In a field of 234 athletes from 35 teams, the sophomore led the Shockers to a 19th place victory.
 
Rebekah Topham was the only other Shocker that finished in the top-40. The redshirt junior ran 21:00.2 to place 38th. Yazmine Wright, Rita Schnacker and Winnie Kibet rounded out the scoring for the Shockers. Wright placed 123rd (21:57.1), Schnacker finished 159th (22:23.8) and Kibet ran 22:25.4 to finish 164th. Amber Reed and Halle Johnson each finished the 6K course, Reed ran 23:03.6 (203rd) and Johnson in 24:50.4 (231st).
 
Shockers Tangy Wiseman and Destini Eskridge competed in the women's Gray 6K race. Wiseman placed 92nd with a time of 23:59.3 and Eskridge ran 24:41.3 to finish 102nd.
 
University of Arkansas won the Cardinal 6K team title with 51 points, the Razorback finished four in the top-10. Jessica Hull of Oregon won the individual title finishing the course in 20:03.2, she led Oregon to a second place team finish with 71 points.
 
Men's Recap
232 athletes from 34 teams entered men's White 8K race. Clayton Duchatschek finished 124th leading the Shockers to a 30th place finish. Duchatschek bettered his 2018 season best 8K time by 15 seconds finishing the race in 25:13.6.
 
Zack Penrod trailed Duchatschek by 14 seconds finishing 143rd. Pedro Montoya ran 25:54.5 (169th), Dray Carson finished in 26:05.9 (181st) and Alex Moen rounded out the scoring for the Shockers finishing 193rd in 26:17.9. Josh Klein placed 213th with a time of 26:46.8.
 
Ethan Kossover and Cory Landon ran in the Gray 8K race. Kossover led the way finishing 48th with a time of 25:15.6, while Landon ran 26:39.1 to place 65th.
 
Rory Linkletter defended his 2017 title by winning the 2018 race in 23:54.4. Linkletter led No. 2 BYU to the team title as the Cougars placed all five scorers in the top-15, including three in the top-5.
 
 
VICTORIA, Kan. – The Shockers sent eight athletes, including four men and four women to compete at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open.
 
The men's team was led by unattached Jed Helker. Helker, a true freshman, finished the 8K in 32nd with a time of 25:52.0. Sean Curran and Jack Lowry finished the course within one second of each other. Curran placed 131st (28:12.8) and Lowry, competing unattached, finished 132nd (28:13.8). Connor Stine finished the race with a time of 29:26.5 in 149th place.
 
The men's race featured 154 athletes, Gidieon Kimutai of Missouri South won the race in 24:54.8.
 
The Shocker women were led by true freshman Danielle Rinn. Rinn, competing unattached, finished the 5K course in 55th place with a time of 20:00.5. Suzie Garcia followed in 66th (20:18.3), Emma Stamm in 90th (20:56.7) and Hope Saunders in 101st (21:20.3).
 
The cross country program is next in action on Thursday, Oct. 25 at the American Athletic Conference Championships in New Orleans, La.
