IOWA CITY, Iowa –
Alexandra Lazarova and
Ting-Ya Hsu combined for three wins on day one of the ITA Central Regional.
Lazarova, a sophomore from Slovakia, rolled into the second round with an early 6-0, 6-1 straight-set victory over Andrea Vasilijevic of Oral Roberts at the Hawkeye Tennis Center.
Hsu, who enters her third year with the program, knocked off Isabella Krupa of Southeast Missouri State. The junior rolled in the first, winning 6-4. After trailing 0-2 in the second, Hsu battled back to tie the match at four, and come away with the set, 6-4.
Hsu took on Arkansas State's Anita Detlava in the second round, where she fell 6-2 6-1. Lazarova clinched a main draw spot with a second-round win over Amelia Guevremont of Arkansas State. After taking the first set (6-3), Lazarova fell in the second (6-4) before winning 10-7 in a 10-point tiebreaker.
Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva teamed up with Hsu and faced the Creighton duo of Epperson and Henne in the first round of the doubles main draw. The Shocker duo, who are seeded (9-16), won 8-4 to advance to tomorrow's second round.
Lazarova will join
Sandra Honigova,
Marta Bellucco and
Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva in the main draw, set to kick off tomorrow.
