WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State used seven service aces to earn a 3-0 win over ECU. The Shockers won by scores of 25-16, 25-12 and 25-21.
Tabitha Brown led the Shockers with eight kills, two service aces and 13 digs, while
Kora Kauling had 27 assists and two service aces.
Giorgia Civita added 13 digs.
The Shockers raced out to a 12-5 lead in the first set behind the serving of Kauling. A Brown kill pushed the lead to 21-14 and back-to-back ECU hitting errors gave WSU the 25-16 win.
The second set went back and forth until the Shockers used a 5-0 run to take a 15-7 lead. A block by Kauling and
Grace Burken gave WSU a 21-11 lead and a block by Brown and
Brooke Smith brought the Shockers to set point at 24-12. Burken's service ace ended the set 25-12.
A Kauling/Smith block put WSU up 13-7 early in the third set and a Brown kill pushed it to 15-8. ECU pulled within 22-19, but the Shockers used a Brown kill and two kills from
Chase Jackson for the 25-21 win.
The Shockers are next in action on Sun., Oct. 14 when they host conference leader Cincinnati at 1 p.m. inside Charles Koch Arena. It is Wichita Eagle Family Day where fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs, four drinks and four popcorns for $32.
