CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Wichita State men's tennis fell to Utah 5-2 Saturday at the Harvard Crimson Invite at the Reis Tennis Center on the campus of Harvard University.
 
The Shockers started the day off strong, clinching the doubles point. Shocker duo Marius Frosa and Murkel Dellien, who rank No. 27, knocked off Joe Woolley and Dan Little (6-4) for an early advantage. Senior Miroslav Herzan and junior Andrea Caligiana dropped their matchup against Randy Cory and Russell Benkaim 4-6, to even the match. Co-captains Haru Inoue and Eddie Stoica won a close one in the third flight (7-5) to win the doubles point for the Shockers.
 
Dan Little of Utah evened the match taking down Marius Frosa (6-3, 6-4) in the second flight. Murkel Dellien squared away with Egbert Weverink on court three for the Shockers. Weverink had the upper hand (6-4,6-3), giving the Utes their second point of the match.
 
Co-captain Miroslav Herzan got the Shockers back in the hunt in the fifth flight, where he went won in three sets (6-1, 4-6, 6-4) over the Utes' Russell Benkaim. David Micevski, the Utes' No. 1, took down Inoue in straight sets (6-1, 7-6 (8)) to move the lead 3-2 in favor of Utah. Stoica won the first set (6-3) in the fourth flight, before dropping the next two (6-2, 6-2) to Slava Shainyan.
 
Caligiana got the call for the Shockers in his first match of the year in singles,  battling Sierra in the sixth flight. After a tie at six, Sierra won the tiebreaker and took the second set (6-4) to give the Utes a 5-2 victory over the Shockers.
 
The Shockers fall to 1-2 on the season, and 3-2 all-time against Utah.

WSU will be in action again tomorrow at the Crimson Invite on the campus of Harvard, where they will take on Auburn/Harvard with a time TBA.
