Shockers Take Down ETSU, 3-0

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Wichita State won its second match of the day with a 3-0 win over East Tennessee State at the LUV Invitational. The Shockers won by scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-21.
 
Tabitha Brown led the Shockers with 15 kills and hit .317, while Abbie Lehman added 10 kills and five blocks. Emily Hiebert had five kills, 32 assists, four service aces, 14 digs and three blocks, while Giorgia Civita had a career-high 22 digs.
 
SET 1:
•  WSU pulls away for 25-17 win
• The Shockers fell behind 2-0 early, but reeled off nine-straight points for a 9-2 lead
• An Emma Wright kill put the Shockers up 11-4, but ETSU scored eight of the next 10 to pull within 13-12
• A Hiebert kill and service ace gave WSU a 16-13 lead and two kills from Abbie Lehman pushed the lead to 20-14
• Hiebert ends it with two-straight kills for a 25-17 win
• During the set, Tabitha Brown collected her 500th career kill
 
SET 2:
• The Shockers take the second set 25-16 over ETSU
• A block by Lehman and Wright put the Shockers up 6-1 early
• ETSU pulled within 9-8 on a WSU hitting error, but the Shockers scored eight of the next nine for a 17-9 lead
• Kills from Abby Pugh and Mikaela Raudsepp made the score 22-14 and WSU won the set 25-16 on a Bucs hitting error
 
SET 3:
• Shockers come back to take the third set 25-21
• ETSU took an early 3-0 lead and increased it to 9-5 with three-straight kills
• A block by Hiebert and Lauren Hinrichs pulled WSU within 12-10 and a Brown kill tied it at 13
• A Raudsepp kill and Lehman/Wright block gave WSU a 17-15 lead and a Lehman kill increased it to 20-17
• Wright's kill pushed the lead to 23-19 and and Brown's kill gave WSU the 25-21 win
 
NEXT MATCH:
• The Shockers finish the weekend with a match against Belmont at 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 27
