MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to defeat Wichita State 5-4 Tuesday evening at Tointon Family Stadium.
Alec Bohm went 3-for-4 with a double, while
Willie Schwanke went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Starter
Keylan Killgore went 1.2 innings and gave up one run on one hit with three walks and one strikeout.
K-State got on the board in the bottom of the second. Jake Scudder led off with a single and Steve Serratore followed with a walk. After Scudder was thrown out at third on a bunt, Josh Rolette walked to load the bases. With two outs, Josh Ethier walked to score Serratore to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
The Shockers tied it in the fourth. With one out, Bohm doubled to centerfield and scored on a double from Schwanke to tie the score 1-1.
The Wildcats answered in the bottom of the fourth. Josh Rolette led off with a single and with two outs, Will Brennan and Quintin Crandall walked and Cameron Thompson and Scudder followed with singles to give K-State a 4-1 lead.
A Brennan sacrifice fly scored another Wildcat run in the sixth for a 5-1 lead.
The Shockers cut into the lead in the eighth.
Jacob Katzfey and
Jordan Boyer led off with singles and scored on back-to-back groundouts from
Alex Jackson and
Greyson Jenista to cut the lead to 5-3.
An RBI ground out from
Travis Young in the ninth made the final 5-4.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., May 5 at Dallas Baptist at 6:30 p.m.
