WICHITA, Kan. – Zach Lewis' complete game shutout led Wichita State to a 6-0 win over Evansville in game one of a three-game series.
Lewis pitched nine innings and allowed just three singles with one walk and eight strikeouts.
Trey Vickers went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a double, while
Alec Bohm went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Willie Schwanke led off the fourth inning with a walk and moved to second on a single from
Noah Croft.
Trey Vickers sacrificed them both over and
Dayton Dugas' groundout scored Schwanke for a 1-0 Shocker lead.
The Shockers added to the lead in the fifth. With one out,
Alex Jackson and
Greyson Jenista both singled and
Alec Bohm followed with a single to center to score Jackson for a 2-0 lead. With two outs, Croft walked and Jenista scored on a wild pitch to push the lead to 3-0. Vickers doubled to right field to score Bohm and Croft to give the Shockers a 5-0 advantage.
Jackson's sacrifice fly in the eighth scored the Shockers sixth run of the game.
The Shockers and Aces play game two of the series on Sat., May 13 at 2 p.m. at Eck Stadium.
