WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State swept a doubleheader from Illinois State winning game two by the score of 10-5.
Starter
Cody Tyler went 4.1 innings giving up three runs on three hits with four walks and two strikeouts.
Chandler Sanburn earned his third win of the season for the Shockers pitching 1.1 innings in relief.
Trey Vickers went 2-for-4 with two singles and two RBI.
Jordan Boyer was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI.
Illinois State got on the board in the first inning with a RBI single from Owen Miller after a leadoff walk from John Rave.
Wichita State answered in the bottom of the first scoring three runs on two hits and an error. After back-to-back walks from
Alex Jackson and
Greyson Jenista,
Alec Bohm singled to right field to load the bases.
Gunnar Troutwine reached on a fielder's choice to score Jackson. After a throwing error by Illinois State, Vickers singled up the middle to score two and give the Shockers a 3-1 lead.
The Shockers added four runs in the fourth to extend the lead to 7-1. Jenista started the inning with a single. After he was caught stealing, Bohm walked and advanced to second on a balk. Schwanke followed with a RBI single to right field. Ritter drew a bases loaded walk to score a run and Boyer followed with a two RBI single.
The Redbirds added one in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Derek Parola and another in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Zach Barnhart.
Vickers led off the fifth for the Shockers with a single and
Travis Young followed with a RBI triple. Young scored on a double from Boyer to make the score 9-3 after five.
Illinois State cut the lead to four in the sixth with a RBI triple from Joe Aeilts and a single from Joe Butler to score Parola.
Wichita State added one more in the eighth with a fielder's choice RBI from
Noah Croft.
The Shockers and Redbirds wrap up the series on Sat., April 29 at 11 a.m. at Eck Stadium.
