Shockers Drop Game One to Bears, 12-5

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri State scored seven runs in the bottom of the eighth to defeat Wichita State 12-5 in game one of a three-game series.
 
Alec Bohm went 2-for-5 with two home runs and two RBI, while Trey Vickers went 2-for-4 with a run.
 
Starter Zach Lewis went 4.1 innings and gave up three runs on seven hits with five walks and two strikeouts.
 
The Shockers got on the board in the top of the second. Willie Schwanke led off with his first home run as a Shocker to give WSU a 1-0 lead. With two outs, Trey Vickers singled and Dayton Dugas and Jordan Boyer followed with walks to load the bases. Greyson Jenista was hit by a pitch to score Vickers and put the Shocks up 2-0.
 
The Bears cut into the lead in the bottom of the inning. Blake Graham and Matt Brown led off the inning with walks and Drew Millas' one-out single scored Graham to cut the Shocker lead to 2-1.
 
MSU took the lead I the fifth. With one out, Jake Burger singled and Jeremy Eierman walked. Aaron Meyer's RBI single tied the game at two and Graham's single loaded the bases. Brown's bases loaded walk put the Bears in front 3-2.
 
Alec Bohm's home run to right field tied the score at three in the top of the sixth. Schwanke reached first on a wild pitch after striking out and Vickers' two-out single moved him to second. Pinch hitter Jacob Katzfey walked to load the bases and Schwanke scored on a passed ball to give WSU a 4-3 lead.
 
MSU retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs, Burger walked and Eierman followed with a home run to put the Bears in front 5-4.
 
Bohm's second home run of the game tied the score again in the seventh, but the Bears used a big eighth inning to go back in front. MSU used four hits, three walks and a hit batsman to score seven runs in the eighth and go in front 12-5.
 
The Shockers and Bears next play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Sun., April 23 at Hammons Field.
