WICHITA, Kan. – Another strong performance by
Katie Malone and 12 hits from the Wichita State offense, helped the Shockers finish the sweep of the Indiana State Sycamores by a score of 6-0.
Katie Malone threw her second complete game of the weekend, not allowing a baserunner until the fifth inning and allowing just two hits in the game.
McKenzie Adams and
Paige Luellen led the offense on Saturday, as they combined for five of the teams 12 hits and drove in a combined four runs. Adams was able to have a perfect 3-for-3 day with two doubles, while Luellen went 2-for-3 with a home run.
Both teams were scoreless for the first two innings, until
Kelli Spring led off the third with a single.
Madison Perrigan moved Spring to second on a sacrifice bunt and she later scored on a single from Adams. Luellen followed Adams' single with her eighth home run of the year to give Wichita State a 3-0 lead.
Mackenzie Wright doubled in the fifth inning with two outs to score
Laurie Derrico from second to extend the lead to 4-0.
With all momentum on Wichita State's side, the Shockers added two more runs on three straight hits from Adams, Luellen and
Asea Webber to extend the lead to 6-0 and give Wichita State its third win in two days.
The Shockers are now 26-14 overall and 11-4 in Missouri Valley Conference play. Wichita State will be in action again on Wednesday as they host Missouri State for a double-header beginning at 3 p.m.
