LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to come back and beat Wichita State 8-6 Tuesday night at Hoglund Ballpark.
Trey Vickers went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a home run, while
Alex Jackson went 2-for-4 with a double.
Starter
Keylan Killgore went four innings and gave up four runs on six hits with no walks and three strikeouts.
KU jumped on the board in the bottom of the first. Rudy Karre led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Devin Foyle's two-out single scored Karre to give the Jayhawks an early 1-0 lead.
The Shockers answered in the second. With one out,
Alex Jackson doubled down the left field line and scored on a home run by
Trey Vickers to put the Shockers up 2-1.
Brett Vosik's home run tied the score at two in the bottom of the third, but the Shockers retook the lead in the fourth.
Alec Bohm led off with a walk and moved to third on a one-out single by Jackson. Bohm scored on a fielder's choice from Vickers to give the Shocks a 3-2 lead.
Luke Ritter's two-run home run increased the lead to 5-2 in the fifth, but Marcus Wheeler's two-run home run pulled the Jayhawks within 5-4 in the bottom of the inning.
Noah Croft led off the seventh with a triple to right-center and scored on
Jordan Boyer's single to center field to increase the WSU lead to 6-4.
KU used two hits, two walks and two hit batsmen to score four runs in the seventh and take an 8-6 lead.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., April 14 at Bradley at 6 p.m.
