WICHITA, Kan. -- The Wichita State women's tennis team faces a tall task on Wednesday, March 8, when they host No. 6 Texas Tech at the Coleman Tennis Center at 4 p.m.
Texas Tech (9-3) moved up to No. 6 in this week's Oracle/ITA national rankings, two spots up from last week. The Red Raiders are coming off of a pair of 4-0 sweeps of both No. 22 TCU and No. 41 Rice last weekend. TTU features a pair of ranked doubles duos, as Sarah Dvorak/Sabrina Federici are ranked 24th and Gabriela Talaba/Felicity Maltby are 48th. In singles play, Talaba (No. 17), Maltby (No. 40) and Alex Valenstein (No. 109) are ranked for Texas Tech.
The Shockers (5-6) are coming off a 5-2 loss to another Big XII opponent, No. 47 Oklahoma, back on March 4. Junior
Giulia Guidetti has re-entered the singles ranks after being previously unranked. Guidetti is now No. 117, and is currently 17-8 on the season. The Shockers are about two weeks removed from a No. 35 ranking.
The Red Raiders are the highest-ranked opponent that WSU has faced since 2010, when No. 3 Notre Dame defeated the Shockers 6-1 in Wichita.
The two teams last met on March 7, 2015, when No. 19 Texas Tech swept No. 22 Wichita State 4-0 in Lubbock, Texas. Dvorak, who was No. 65 at the time, was leading
Gabriela Porubin 3-6, 6-0, 4-0 before going unfinished.
