Box Score DENTON, Texas -- The Wichita State women's tennis team picked up its second win of the weekend, defeating North Texas, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at the Waranch Tennis Complex.

North Texas took the doubles point, starting with the No. 77-ranked Tamuna Kutubidze/Maria Kononova topping Gabriela Porubin/Fatima Bizhukova 6-1. Alexis Thoma/Alexandra Heczey followed up with a 6-4 win over Tanaporn Thongsing/Ting-Ya Hsu. Giulia Guidetti and Marta Bellucco were leading Ivana Babic/Laura Arciniegas 6-5 before going unfinished.

Bizhukova evened up the score, opening up singles play with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Heczey in the fourth flight. In the top flight, No. 82 Kononova defeated No. 117 Guidetti 6-3, 7-5. Marta Bellucco and Gabriela Porubin picked up wins in the sixth and third flights respectively, helping the Shockers trade wins with the Mean Green to tie the dual at 3-3. Ting-Ya Hsu closed out the dual for Wichita State with a 6-0, 6-3 defeat of Haruka Sasaki.

"I was pleased with how our 3-6 players all embraced the pressure," said head coach Colin Foster. "Giulia and Tana(porn) were fighting like crazy to extend their matches, but it was pretty clear from early on that we'd probably need all four of those wins and they all did a great job to maintain their composure and finish their matches in straight sets."

Wichita State improves to 7-7 on the season, while North Texas dropped to 5-9.

The Shockers will have back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference matches, going to Southern Illinois on March 25 for a 2:00 p.m. match, and then to Evansville on the 26th at 10 a.m.
