ARLINGTON, Texas – Katie Malone collected her fifth win of the weekend, defeating Nicholls State, 5-0 and throwing a two-hit complete game shutout to complete the Shockers perfect weekend.
Laurie Derrico led the way with two hits and three RBI, including a two-run home run in the sixth inning.
Mackenzie Wright and
Kelli Spring also collected two hits on the day.
The Shockers scored early on the final day, scoring one run in the first after Spring singled with one out. She then advanced to second on a wild pitch and later scored on a single from Derrico.
Spring scored her second run of the day after reaching on a fielder's choice and scoring on a two-run home run by Derrico for her second and third RBI of the day.
After a single in the bottom of the seventh, Malone sat down the next three hitters to give Wichita State the 5-0 win.
The Shockers end the weekend with an overall record of 9-2 and will be in action on Wednesday as they host the defending National Champion Oklahoma at 5:00 p.m.
