STARTING FIVE:

1 ----- A WIN WOULD...
…Improve Wichita State's Maui Invitational record to 5-1 all-time -- the fourth-highest winning percentage in the event's 34-year history behind Duke (16-0), Syracuse (10-0) and UNC (20-3).
… Be WSU's first tournament title of any kind in the state of Hawaii (its best in seven previous trips was a 2014 runner-up finish at the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu).
… Make WSU to 12-10 all-time in the state of Hawaii (7-2 under coach Gregg Marshall).
… Be Marshall's third MTE title in 11 seasons. WSU previously won the 2012 Cancun Challenge and the 2013 CBE Classic.
… Be the Shockers' first regular season tournament title in an eight-team bracket format since the 1963 All-College Classic.
... Improve WSU to 5-0 for the for the second-straight year and the fourth time in the last six seasons.

2 ----- MAUI HARBINGER: Since 2010-11, 12 of the 14 Maui finalists have gone on to win at least one NCAA Tournament game and six reached the Final Four... 2009 runner-up Cincinnati was the last Maui finalist to miss out on an NCAA Tournament... All-time, 57 of the 66 finalists have danced in March... Each of the last 30 Maui champions have gone on to play in the NCAA Tournament, and five won national championships, including UNC in 2016-17.

3 ----- WSU-ND SERIES Notre Dame has won two of the three meetings between the schools. The last came in the 2015 Sweet 16 in Cleveland when the Irish defeated the Shockers 81-70... Three current Shocker starters combined for 29 minutes in that game as freshmen. Rashard Kelly (4 pts, 2 reb, 1 blk, 1 stl in 11 minutes). Zach Brown (2 pts, 2 reb, 1 assist, 1 steal in 12 minutes) and Shaquille Morris (6 minutes, 2 pts, 1 reb). Notre Dame's Bonzie Colson came off the bench for six points and two boards in 14 minutes... Marshall has only faced Mike Brey one other time as a head coach, but it's a fond memory. Marshall led 11th-seeded Winthrop to a 74-64 upset over No. 6 Notre Dame in the first round of the 2007 tournament (his first career March Madness victory).

4 ----- WSU vs. RANKED TEAMS:  WSU is 12-15 against AP Top-25 teams under Marshall. The Shockers are 9-8 against ranked foes since the start of the 2011-12 season when they began their run of NCAA Tournaments.

5 ----- WORST. NOTE. EVER:  WSU has not lost on a Wednesday since Dec. 3, 2014 (an OT setback at No. 25 Utah). Since then, the Shockers have won 22-straight hump day contests.

UP NEXT:
The Shockers return home Tuesday, Nov. 28 to face Savannah State. The 7 p.m. CT tip will air on YurView Kansas (Cox HD 2022).
