PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif.—Senior Gabriela Porubin and sophomore Fatima Bizhukova represented Wichita State in the main doubles consolation draw today at the ITA Riviera All-American Championships.
 
The No. 16 ranked duo took on Margo Pletcher and Briann Turley of Utah Friday morning in a one set to eight match. The two teams battled back and forth, eventually reaching a five-all tie. The Shocker duo fell behind 7-6 and eventually lost the match, 8-6.
 
Bizhukova and Porubin battled both days of the Championships, and were in it until the end in both matches. They lost a hard fought battle to No. 23 ranked Anna Rogers and Claudia Wiktorinof NC State yesterday, 8-6.  "We fought hard in both doubles matches. As a team, we take pride in our doubles play and Fatya and Gaby certainly deserve to be in the event and were right there in both matches," head coach Colin Foster said.
 
The Shockers will next be in action Oct. 19 – 23 in Lawrence, Kan. at the ITA Central Regional. Foster is excited to watch the duo grow and continue to get better going into the regional. " This team has plenty of room to keep getting better which is exciting, and as a team we'll continue to emphasize doubles even more as we enter the second half of the semester," said Foster.
