Morris Leads Shockers to 84-58 Win over INST

11169 Shocker Radio Postgame: Marshall | Morris

WICHITA, Kan. – Behind a new career-high 24 points from Shaquille Morris, Wichita State bullied its way to an 84-58 win Saturday afternoon over Indiana State.

It took the Shockers (17-4, 7-1 Missouri Valley Conference) less than 10 minutes to built up a 20-point lead en route to their 10th consecutive victory over the Sycamores (7-13, 1-7). WSU has swept each of the last four regular season series between the two.

Morris paced WSU in points (24), rebounds (8), assists (4) and blocks (2), becoming the first Shocker in four years to lead the team in all four of those categories on the same night. Cleanthony Early collected 17 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and two blocks in a Jan. 23, 2013 win at Missouri State.

Morris did most of his damage in the second half where he scored 15 of his 24 points. The Edmond, Okla. native finished 6-of-10 from the field and 12-of-15 at the foul line.

Sophomore forward Markis McDuffie added 16 points (12 in the second half) to move past the 500-mark for his career, and Austin Reaves added 11 points and three steals.

For Indiana State, Matt Van Scyoc went 3-of-5 from three and finished with a team-high 14, but his teammates combined to hit just 2-of-18 from deep. The Sycamores finished 33.3 percent overall from the field, compared to 44 percent for WSU (6-of-19 from three).

Two running themes helped the Shockers maintain separation: charity and the charity stripe.  WSU converted 30 Sycamore fouls into 30 points at the free throw line and finished plus-nine in the turnover battle, cashing 15 Sycamore giveaways into 16 more points.

WSU matched its season low with six turnovers – just one of which came after halftime – and forced Indiana State into 15 turnovers.

The Shockers went 30-of-41 at the foul line compared to the Sycamores' 13-of-18 ledger.

The Shockers opened the game on an 11-2 run behind six points from Morris.

Indiana State managed just four points in the first 11 minutes during a miserable 2-of-15 start from the field.

Reaves led the charge in the first half, scoring 10 of his 11 points before the break. His breakaway dunk finished out a 13-0 Shocker run that pushed the lead to 24-4 midway through the first half.

WSU continued to hold a 20-point lead, 34-14, with 4:20 remaining after a pair of free throws from Reaves to put him in double-figures with 10 points.

WSU missed seven of its last eight shots over the final 3:32 of the half, allowing the Sycamores to cut the lead to 15 by halftime, 37-22.

A McDuffie three-pointer helped the Shockers during a 9-0 run to extend the lead to 24, 52-28, with 14 minutes to go. At the midway point of the second half, WSU led 64-41.

Morris was a one-man wrecking crew down the stretch to put the game completely out of reach. The Sycamores had no answer down low, as Morris bullied his way to the free throw line 11 times in the second half.

The Shockers led by as many 30, 80-50, with four minutes left in the game.

Up Next:
WSU hosts Southern Illinois (11-9, 4-3 MVC) for a 6 p.m. tip Tuesday on CBS Sports Network with Andrew Catalon and Steve Lappas calling the action. This will be the first meeting between the Shockers and Salukis this season.
