Shockers Win Second Straight, 65-54

WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State women's basketball was able to hold off Bradley for their second conference win, 65-54 Friday night in Charles Koch Arena.
 
Both teams shot 39 percent from the field, with Wichita State going 21-for-54, while Bradley shot 17-for-44. Wichita State also forced 19 turnovers while turning it over just 12 times.
 
Rangie Bessard led the Shockers with 21 points and 10 rebounds while Diamond Lockhart also added 11 points. Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage also added a season-high nine points.
 
The Braves came out strong, making their first three shots, but the Shockers battled, trading baskets and keeping the score tied at six at the first media timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Bradley went on a 10-0 run to make the score 16-6 before a basket by TaQuandra Mike cut the lead back to 16-8. Wichita State was able to get one more basket, making the score, 16-10 at the end of the first quarter.



The Shockers came out strong in the second quarter, quickly cutting the lead to one, forcing Bradley to call its first timeout. Before the end of the half, both teams traded baskets and the Shockers went into the locker room down by three, 28-25.
 
To start the second half, the Shockers were able to take the lead on a three-pointer by Diamond Lockhart, 32-31. A three-pointer by Tamara Lee gave the Shockers their largest lead of the game 37-31, forcing the Braves to call their first timeout of the second half. With four minutes left in the third quarter, the Braves tied the game at 40. The Shockers then went on a 7-2 run to make the score 47-42. The Shockers were able to hit one more three in the quarter, entering the fourth quarter up 50-45.
 
Both teams traded baskets to start the fourth, and with 3:48 left in the game, Bradley called a timeout, down 54-51. After a basket and a free throw from Rangie Bessard, the Shockers took a 59-54 lead with 1:30 left in the game. Four free throws by Bessard and two free throws by Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage sealed the game for the Shockers, 65-54.
 
The Shockers are in action again on Sunday, Jan. 22, as they host Illinois State at 2 p.m., in Charles Koch Arena.
