FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Wichita State hit .440 as a team on the way to a 3-0 win at Colorado State. The Shockers won by scores of 26-24, 25-15 and 25-17.
Jody Larson led the Shockers with 15 kills and hit .565.
Emily Hiebert had a double-double with 34 assists and 10 digs, while
Dani Mostrom also had 10 digs.
The first set went back and forth until the Shockers scored three-straight to go in front 7-5. A block by
Abbie Lehman and
Tabitha Brown gave WSU a 10-7 lead and a service ace from
Gabi Mostrom increased the lead to 14-10. The Rams used back-to-back kills to pull within 15-14 and they tied the score at 18. CSU reached set point at 24-22, but a kill by
Jody Larson and a Ram hitting error tied the score at 24. Another Larson kill and a kill from
Katy Dudzinski gave the Shockers the 26-24 win.
Three-straight kills by Brown gave WSU a 10-5 lead in the second set. Another Brown kill and a service ace from
Giorgia Civita increased the lead to 19-12. The Shockers won the set 25-15 on a kill by
Mikaela Raudsepp.
Three-straight kills from Larson put the Shockers up 5-3 in the third set. Kills from Dudzinski and Hiebert increased the lead to 9-5, but the Rams pulled to within 11-8 after two-straight kills. A kill from Lehman and a block from Hiebert gave WSU a 16-10 advantage, but CSU responded with a 4-1 run to make the score 17-14. WSU scored six of the final seven points to win the set 25-17.
The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Sept. 10 against No. 3 Texas at 1 p.m. (Central) in Fort Collins, Colo.
