Photo GalleryWICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State scored seven runs in the first inning on its way to a 15-8 win over Oral Roberts on Tuesday night at Eck Stadium.
Starter
Connor Lungwitz went three innings and gave up three runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts. The win moves Lungwitz to 2-0 on the season.
Five Shockers had multiple hits in the game, including
Chase Rader, who went 2-for-4 with a Grand Slam and four RBI.
The Golden Eagles wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. In the top of the first, Nick Rotola led off with a walk and moved to second on a ground out. Matt Whatley followed with a walk and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Rotola scored on a ground out from Rolando Martinez and Whatley scored on a single from Noah Cummings to give ORU a 2-0 lead.
The Shockers answered in the bottom of the first.
Mikel Mucha led off with a single and moved to second on a single by
Tanner Kirk.
Greyson Jenista followed with a RBI single that moved Kirk to third.
Ryan Tinkham's fly ball to right was dropped and Kirk scored and
Gunnar Troutwine walked to load the bases.
Chase Rader followed with a grand slam to give the Shockers a 6-2 lead. With two outs,
Trey Vickers singled and he scored on Mucha's double to left field to increase the lead to 7-2.
WSU added to the lead in the second. Jenista singled and scored on Troutwine's home run to left field. Rader doubled and scored on
Alec Bohm's triple to put the Shocks in front 10-2.
ORU used two doubles to score a run in the third and cut the lead to 10-3.
The Shockers used home runs from Tinkham and Dugas to increase the lead to 15-3 in the third and ORU scored two in the fourth to cut the lead to 15-5.
ORU used three walks to score three more in the top of the seventh to make the score 15-8.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., April 8 at Evansville at 6:30 p.m.
