ST. LOUIS – Cold shooting doomed Wichita State in a 57-52 overtime loss to Northern Iowa on semifinal Saturday at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.

Anton Grady finished with 14 points and six rebounds to lead the Shockers. Ron Baker added 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists, and Fred VanVleet tallied eight points and five assists.

WSU (24-8) missed its first 18 three-point attempts and finished 2-of-24 for the game (8.3 percent). The Shockers must now hope for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament when brackets are released a week from Sunday.

UNI (21-12) advanced to the finals behind 20 points from Wes Washpun and a clutch three-pointer by Jeremy Morgan with 1:18 to play in overtime that snapped a 52-all tie.

Down 3, WSU turned it over with 43 seconds to play. Washpun ran the clock to 18 for the Panthers before bulling his way to the hoop for a clutch basketball to make it a two-possession game.

Both teams finished with six turnovers. WSU had as many giveaways in overtime (3) as it did in the first 40 minutes combined.

The Shockers jumped to a 10-0 lead after holding UNI scoreless until the 12:11-mark of the first half and led by as many as 11 points. They settled for a 29-23 halftime lead.

WSU played most over the second half from in front until Klint Carlson's trey tied the game at 41 with 6:15 to go in regulation.

A back-and-forth struggle followed. Neither side scored over the final 1:47 of the half. WSU had a shot to win it with the score knotted at 47 and just over 30 seconds remaining.

VanVleet's driving layup missed the mark, and the teams headed to overtime.

For the game, UNI outshot WSU 36.5-31.7 percent from the field. WSU won the battle of the boards 47-37.
