RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. - The 14th-ranked Wichita State women's tennis team defeated #65 Kansas State 4-1 on neutral territory this afternoon.
The duos of
Rebecca Pedrazzi and
Aleksandra Trifunovic, and
Abby Stevens and
Giulia Guidetti picked up wins in doubles play to secure the point. Pedrazzi/Trifunovic won 6-1, while Stevens/Guidetti won 6-3.
Gabriela Porubin and
Julia Schiller were leading 5-3, but the match went unfinished after the Shockers clinched the point.
In singles play, Trifunovic (6-0, 6-3), Stevens (6-2, 6-4) and Proubin (6-3, 6-4) picked up wins. Schiller had the lone defeat, losing 6-2, 6-1. Pedrazzi and Guidetti also competed, but did not finish their match once WSU had secured the win over the Wildcats.
WSU is now 8-3 against nationally ranked teams, and has won five straight.
The Shockers improve to 17-3 overall, and will return to Wichita to take on Texas-Arlington on March 31 at 2 p.m. at the Sheldon Coleman Tennix Complex.
