Box Score (PDF)FULLERTON, Calif. – Blake Quinn pitched six strong innings to lead No. 23 Cal State Fullerton to a 9-1 win over Wichita State.
Quinn gave up one run on three hits with three walks and six strikeouts.
Shocker starter
Sam Tewes pitched 0.1 inning and gave up two runs, one earned, on two hits.
Dayton Dugas,
Tanner Kirk and
Gunnar Troutwine each had a hit for the Shockers.
The Titans wasted no time getting on the board in the bottom of the first. Josh Vargas reached on an error and scored on a double to right-center from Timmy Richards to go up 1-0. With one out, Dalton Blaser singled through the right side to score Richards for a 2-0 lead.
The Shockers got one back in the top of the third.
Dayton Dugas singled with one out and moved to second on a single by
Tanner Kirk.
Mikel Mucha walked to load the bases and
Luke Ritter's ground ball fielder's choice scored Dugas to cut the lead to 2-1.
CSF added a run in the bottom of the fifth. Scott Hurst led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out by Tristan Hildebrandt to give the Titans a 3-1 lead.
A sacrifice fly from Hurst in the sixth increased the CSF lead to 4-1 and Pinkston's three-run homer in the seventh made the score 7-1. The Titans added one more in the inning and another in the eighth for the final 9-1 score.
The Shockers and Titans play game two of the series on Sat., March 12 at 8 p.m. Central time.
