WICHITA, Kan. – The 34th ranked Wichita State women's tennis team defeated North Texas 6-1 on Sunday at the Wichita Country Club.

In doubles competition, WSU swept North Texas 2-0 to clinch the point, with the third match ending unfinished. Gabriela Porubin and Julia Schiller dispatched Maria Kononova and Tamuna Kutubidze 6-3, while Luca Pump and Giulia Guidetti defeated Nastya Shestakova and Agustina Valenzuela 6-4. The third match was not finished, since the Shockers already clinched the doubles points. Rebecca Pedrazzi and Aleksandra Trifunovic were leading 5-2 when the match was called.

In singles play, the Shockers topped the Mean Green 5-1, with Porubin, Pedrazzi, Trifunovic, Guidetti, and Abby Stevens all picking up wins. Guidetti has won 11 straight matches, and is 20-4 this year. Schiller suffered the lone loss for WSU, losing in close sets 7-6 (11-9) and 7-5.

"I thought we came out a little nervous at first in doubles play," said head coach Colin Foster. "I thought we responded to that bit of adversity well. We played at a high level at the end of the doubles point. In singles, everyone came out with a good mindset and focus. The girls were patient when they needed to be, and were aggressive when the opportunities presented themselves. Even though they're not ranked, North Texas is a very solid opponent. I thought they pushed us on every court, and we responded really well."

The Shockers improve to 5-2 overall, and will travel to Columbia, Missouri on Thursday, February 11, where they will compete in a three-team meet with BYU and Missouri.
