Photo GalleryWICHITA, Kan. – Northern Colorado scored two runs in the ninth inning to defeat Wichita State 4-3 in the final game of the three game series.
Tanner Kirk went 2-for-2 with one RBI and
Trey Vickers was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Reliever
John Hayes took the loss, pitching one inning and giving up two runs on two hits.
UNC got on the board early in the first inning, when Brett Minnick singled through the left side and Tyler Yamaguchi scored.
Gunnar Troutwine led off the second inning with a double down the left field line. A single by Kirk brought Troutwine in to even the score 1-1.
In the fourth, Tinkham hit a single to start the inning and moved to third on a double by
Zach Reding. Tinkham scored on a wild pitch to put the Shockers up 2-1.
With the score tied at two, Reding started the eighth inning with a leadoff single, and
Bret Fehr came in as the pinch runner. Vickers hit a single to right center field that drove in Fehr and gave the Shockers a 3-2 lead.
The Bears answered in the top of the ninth with two outs. A walk to Griffin Mueller set up a base runner and pinch runner Dean Lawson stole second base. Yamaguchi hit a single to right field that brought in the tying run. Cole Maltese's single allowed Yamaguchi to score, putting UNC up 4-3.
The Shockers are next in action in Tulsa, OK on Tue., Feb. 23 against Oral Roberts at 3 p.m.
