LINCOLN, Neb. -- The 32nd-ranked Wichita State women's tennis team finished out a 4-0 weekend trip with dual wins over Nebraska (6-1) and Colorado State (7-0) on Saturday.
WSU (9-2) has won five-straight duals, and its only losses have come against top-10 teams.
Two days after handing an unbeaten Missouri squad its first loss of the spring, WSU did the same to Nebraska (6-0 coming into the day).
Against the Huskers,
Giulia Guidetti and
Luca Pump picked up a win at No. 3 doubles to swing the doubles point for WSU. No. 72
Gabriela Porubin delivered a swift 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, and teammates
Rebecca Pedrazzi, Guidetti,
Aleksandra Trifunovic and
Abby Stevens followed suit with wins on courts 3-6. Nebraska trailed 6-0 before salvaging a win at No. 2 singles in a super tiebreaker.
The Shockers continued their momentum later in the afternoon against Colorado State (2-3), despite resting two of their top three singles players.
Julia Schiller replaced Porubin atop the order and collected a 6-2, 6-2 win. Guidetti and Stevens each swept their matches without dropping a game at No. 2 and 4 singles, and Trifunovic posted her fifth-consecutive victory with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph on court 3.
Pump and
Tanaporn Thongsing joined the singles lineup and conttributed wins on courts 5 and 6.
"We played really well at 1 and 3 doubles this morning," WSU head coach, Colin Foster said. "Becky and Aleks got themselves in a hole and almost climbed back from 0-4 down, but it was good for them to get a confidence-building win at No. 1 against CSU this afternoon. Otherwise, Gaby really set the tone against Nebraska at the top spot and the others followed suit. This afternoon it was good to get a 7-0 and send everyone into this next week of training on a win"Winners of five-straight, the Shockers head back to Sillwater, Okla. next Sunday (Feb. 21) for a neutral site match against No. 34 Washington, then travel to Fayetteville, Ark. the following day to take on 44th-ranked Arkansas.
