WSU won the first quarter, 8-6, with three buckets by Bessard, and a layup by Pacar with six seconds remaining for the two-point lead. Both teams came out in a zone, which contributed to the low-scoring first quarter.

Brittany Martin opened the second quarter scoring for WSU, but a free throw and Bradley basket to open the second quarter cut the lead to one, 10-9, at the 7:19 mark. A Tinjum tradition three-point play after a Bessard fouled gave BU the lead, 12-10 at the 6:05 mark. BU out-scored WSU 9-7 over the final six minutes, and 15-9 in the second quarter, to take a 21-17 halftime lead.

In the first half, Bessard led WSU with 11 points, while Pacar, Chapel and Martin had two each. Tinjum led the Braves in scoring with 10 in the half. Each team shot 23 percent with WSU at 6-of-26 and BU 7-of-30.
