Lehman Named MVC Defensive Player of the WeekWichita State volleyball student-athlete
Abbie Lehman has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 14-20.
Lehman, a sophomore middle blocker from Newton, Kan., led the Shockers to a 2-1 record over the weekend at the Marquette Invitational. She averaged 1.62 blocks along with 3.08 kills per set and hit .341.
In the five-set win over Marquette, she had a match-high eight blocks along with two digs and 12 kills. In the four-set loss to IUPUI, she had a match-high four blocks along with four digs and 16 kills, while hitting .355. In the four-set win over Albany, she had a match-high and career-high nine blocks along with one dig and 12 kills, while hitting .435.
It is the first MVC Defensive Player of the Week award for Abbie.
Reilly Heating UpSenior right-side hitter
Katie Reilly continued her impressive play over the weekend at the Marquette Invitational. Over her last 11 matches, she is averaging 2.95 kills, 0.95 digs and 0.64 blocks per set, while hitting .379. She has had double-digit kills in seven of the 11 matches and has been named to two all-tournament teams during that stretch.
MVC OpenerWichita State opens Missouri Valley Conference play this week at home against Indiana State. The Shockers are 16-16 overall in conference openers and 10-5 under head coach
Chris Lamb. The Shockers are also 14-17 in conference home openers and 10-5 under Lamb.
Reilly Named to All-Tournament TeamWichita State volleyball student-athlete
Katie Reilly has been named to the all-tournament team at the Marquette Invitational.
Reilly, a senior right-side hitter from Cypress, Texas, led the Shockers to a 2-1 record at the tournament with wins over Marquette and Albany.
She averaged 3.31 kills, 1.54 digs and 1.08 blocks per set, while hitting .356. She totaled double-digit kills in all three matches and had a career-high 20 kills on Friday night against Marquette.
