Shocks Beat No. 9 Dallas Baptist 10-3

DALLAS, Texas –
 Wichita State used a five-run sixth to defeat No. 9 Dallas Baptist 10-3 and even the series.

Ryan Tinkham went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a home run, while Sam Hilliard went 1-for-4 with four RBI and a grand slam.

Starter Jeb Bargfeldt went 4.2 innings and gave up three runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Reliever Taylor Goshen earned the win. He went 3.1 shutout innings with four strikeouts.

DBU jumped on the board in the bottom of the first. With one out Camden Duzenack singled and moved to third on a single from Justin Wall. Daniel Salters followed with an RBI groundout to put the Patriots up 1-0.

The Shockers tied it in the top of the second. Zach Reding and Chase Rader led off with singles and Tanner Kirk bunted them over. Trey Vickers' RBI groundout drove in Reding to tie the score at one.

WSU took the lead in the fifth. Sam Hilliard led off with a walk and Ryan Tinkham followed with a two-run home run to put the Shocks up 3-1.

The Patriots answered in the bottom of the fifth. Chane Lynch led off with a single and moved to second on a single from Nash Knight. A fielder's choice from David Martinelli put runners on the corners with one out and Lynch scored on a sacrifice fly from Duzenack to cut the lead to 3-2. Justin Wall singled to drive in Martinelli to tie the score at three.

The Shockers responded with a big sixth inning. Rader was hit by a pitch and stole second. Kirk singled to right to put runners on the corners. Vickers singled home Rader to give WSU a 4-3 lead. After a walk to Daniel Kihle, Sam Hilliard hit a grand slam to left-center to give the Shocks an 8-3 lead.

An RBI double from Tinkham in the eighth increased the lead to 9-3 and Bob Arens homered in the ninth for a 10-3 score.

The Shockers and Patriots wrap up the series on Sat., May 16 at 2 p.m.
