SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri State used eight strong innings from Jon Harris to defeat Wichita State 8-3 in game one of a three-game series.

Gunnar Troutwine went 2-for-4, while Mikel Mucha, Trey Vickers, Zach Reding, Tanner Kirk, Taylor Sanagorski and Daniel Kihle each had a hit for the Shockers.

Starter Isaac Anderson went five innings and gave up six earned runs on eight hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

Dylan Becker led off the bottom of the first with a double to right field and scored on a sacrifice bunt and Shocker error to give the Bears an early 1-0 lead.

Spencer Johnson added a solo home run in the second to increase the MSU lead to 2-0.

The Bears added to their lead in the third with three runs on four hits to go in front 5-0.

Mikel Mucha led off the top of the fifth with an infield single and moved to second on a balk. With one out Taylor Sanagorski walked and Mucha moved to third on a wild pitch. Trey Vickers followed with a single to right field to score Mucha and cut the lead to 5-1.

MSU answered with two more runs in the fifth and one in the seventh for an 8-1 lead.

Troutwine led off the ninth with a single and scored on a one-out triple from Zach Reding to make the score 8-2. Tanner Kirk followed with a single up the middle to score Reding for the final 8-3 score.

The Shockers and Bears play game two of the series on Sat., May 2 at 2:05 p.m.
