Box Score WICHITA, Kan. – Bob Arens' two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the Wichita State Shockers to a 5-3 win in the opening game of a three-game weekend series with Indiana State on Friday night at Eck Stadium.
The win moved Wichita State to 12-17 overall and 4-0 in the Missouri Valley to remain atop the league, while Indiana State fell to 12-14 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
With the bases loaded in the home half of the eighth, Arens broke the tie with a single through the left side to give Wichita State a 5-3 lead. Daniel Kihle and Sam Hilliard each drew walks and Chase Rader was hit by a pitch to set up the game-winning single.

Jeb Bargfeldt started on the mound for WSU and went five innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. After allowing two runs in the top of the first, Bargfeldt settled in over the next four before turning it over to Chandler Sanburn out of the bullpen for an inning and a third.

Indiana State's Andy Young went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and a triple and two runs batted in.

Troutwine plated the first run on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the fifth. The very next batter, Vickers, then laced a single up the middle to score Rader to close the gap to, 3-2.
The Shockers tied it up in the bottom of the sixth on a base hit to center field from Hilliard.
