WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to come back and defeat No. 25 Oklahoma 9-8.

Sam Hilliard went 4-for-5 with two RBI, two doubles and a triple, while Taylor Sanagorski went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a home run.

Reliever John Hayes earned the win. He went 1.1 shutout innings with three strikeouts.

OU used seven hits in the top of the second to score five runs and then added another run on back-to-back doubles in the third to go in front 6-0.

The Shockers answered in the bottom of the third. Ryan Tinkham Walked and Sam Hilliard doubled to put runners on second and third. Tinkham scored on a wild pitch and Hilliard scored on Gunnar Troutwine's sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 6-2. Chase Rader was hit by a pitch with two outs and Taylor Sanagorski followed with a two-run home run to pull the Shocks within 6-4.

OU used three singles in the fifth to add another run, but the Shockers again answered in the bottom of the fifth. Troutwine led off with a triple and scored on a balk to make the score 7-5.

The Sooners got a solo home run from Anthony Hermelyn in the sixth to go in front 8-5, but the Shockers used a two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth to cut into the lead. Tinkham walked with two outs and Hilliard tripled to drive in one run and then scored on an error to make the score 8-7.

In the bottom of the eighth, Mikel Mucha led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Tanner Dearman. Daniel Kihle was hit by a pitch and with two outs, Hilliard singled to centerfield to drive in Mucha and the ball got past the centerfielder to allow Kihle to score the go ahead run and give the Shockers a 9-8 win.

The Shockers are next in action on Fri., May 1 at No. 14 Missouri State at 6:35 p.m.
