BSB: Shocks Walk Off With 6-5 Win Over New Mexico

WICHITA, Kan. – Mikel Mucha's walk off single in the bottom of the ninth gave Wichita State a 6-5 win over New Mexico in game one of a three game series.

Mucha finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Brandon Kimbrel went 1-for-1 with two RBI and a triple.

Starter Isaac Anderson went six innings and gave up two earned runs on five hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

The Lobos struck first with three runs in the top of the second. Carl Stajduhar led off with an infield single and Jack Zoellner walked. Aaron Siple bunted them to second and third and Stajduhar scored on an error to give UNM a 1-0 lead. With two outs, Danny Collier tripled to right-center to score two more to increase the lead to 3-0.

Ryan Tinkham's solo home run in the bottom of the fourth cut the lead to 3-1. The hit extended Tinkham's hitting streak to 20 games.

Lane Milligan led off the top of the fifth with a double for the Lobos and scored on a two-out single from Stajduhar to put UNM up 4-1.

Taylor Sanagorski answered with his first career home run in the bottom of the fifth to pull the Shockers within 4-2.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Chase Rader singled and with two outs Sanagorski walked. Pinch hitter Brandon Kimbrel tripled down the right field line to score both and tie the game at four.

The Shockers took the lead in the bottom of the eighth. Mikel Mucha led off with a single and moved to second on a one-out single from Sam Hilliard. With two outs, Rader's double to left field scored Mucha to give WSU a 5-4 lead.

With two outs in the top of the ninth, Cory Voss homered to tie the score at five.

In the bottom of the ninth, Michael Burns led off with a single and moved to third on a single from Daniel Kihle. Mucha then singled through the right side to score Burns for the 6-5 win.

The Shockers and Lobos play game two on Sat., April 25 at 2 p.m.
