BSB: Shocks Fall to Redbirds, 7-4

WICHITA,Kan. – Illinois State scored three runs in the first inning on the way to a 7-4 win over Wichita State in game three of the series.

Trey Vickers went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Keenan Eaton went 2-for-4 with a double.

Starter Tyler Jones took the loss. He went 1.2 innings and gave up three earned runs on three hits with four walks and two strikeouts.

The Redbirds took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Daniel Dwyer led off with a walk and Paul DeJong singled. With one out, Mason Snyder walked to load the bases and Ryan Koziol singled to drive in Dwyer for a 1-0 lead. Two more runs came across on a Shocker error to push the ILS lead to 3-0.

ILS added to the lead in the second. Dennis Colon doubled with one out and moved to third after back-to-back walks. He would score on a wild pitch to increase the lead to 4-0.

The Shockers cut into the lead in the bottom of the second. Chase Rader led off with a solo home run to centerfield and with two outs, Trey Vickers singled to the shortstop and moved to second on an error. Tanner Dearman followed with a single up the middle to score Vickers to cut the lead to 4-2.

Rader led off the fourth with a walk and moved to third on a hit and run double from Keenan Eaton. Trey Vickers' RBI groundout scored Rader to pull WSU within 4-3.

Jean Ramirez's two-run home run in the top of the sixth gave Illinois State a 6-3 lead, but the Shockers used an RBI single from Sam Hilliard in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 6-4.

The Redbirds added an unearned run in the top of the ninth for the final 7-4 score.

The Shockers are next in action on Tue., April 14 at Kansas State at 6:30 p.m.
