LUBBOCK, Texas -- No. 19 Texas Tech won a battle of nationally-ranked programs, defeating the Wichita State women's tennis team (ITA No. 22), 4-0, Saturday at the McLeod Tennis Center.
Texas Tech won the doubles points and claimed victories at No. 1, 3 and 4 singles. Three other singles matches were left unfinished.
"We created chances in doubles and several first sets in singles," WSU head coach Colin Foster said. "Once we didn't convert a few of those first sets, Tech had too much momentum."
The host Red Raiders improved to 9-3, while the Shockers dropped to 12-3. Each of the Shockers' three dual losses have come to ranked teams.
"I'm really proud of our effort, pushing a top-20 team on the road," Foster said. "You need some close matches to fall your way to win a match like this, but today wasn't meant to be."
WSU plays at Texas-Arlington at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday to cap a run of seven-straight road or neutral site matches. They'll follow it up with a 20-day break from competition before hosting a pair of home duals on March 28.
