WICHITA, Kan. – Central Michigan scored three runs in the top of the ninth to defeat Wichita State 6-3 in game one of a three-game series.

Starter Sam Tewes went four innings and allowed one run on one hit with one walk and five strikeouts before leaving in the fifth inning.

Daniel Kihle went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a triple.

The Shockers got on the board in the bottom of the second. Ryan Tinkham led off with a walk and with two outs scored on a triple off the wall in left-center to give the Shocks a 1-0 lead.

WSU added to the lead in the fourth. Tinkham was hit by a pitch with one out and moved to second on a single through the left side from Jordan Farris. Kihle singled to left field to score Tinkham and Willie Schwanke was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Tanner Kirk walked on four pitches to score Farris and give the Shocks a 3-0 lead.

The Chippewas cut into the lead in the fifth. Logan Regnier singled to lead off the inning and with one out stole second. He scored on Alex Borglin's single through the right side to pull within 3-1.

CMU used two singles, a walk, two passed balls and three stolen bases to tie the score at three in the top of the sixth.

Logan Regnier led off the ninth with a triple and scored on a double from Cody Leichman to give the Chippewas a 4-3 lead. Leichman moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on another bunt for a 5-3 lead. Tyler Huntey, who reached base on an intentional walk, scored on a wild pitch for the final 6-3 score.

The Shockers and Chippewas play game two of the series on Sat., March 7 at 2 p.m.
