Box Score FORT WORTH, Texas – Sam Hilliard drove in four runs, but it was not enough as No. 2 TCU defeated Wichita State 8-4 in game two of a three-game series.
Hilliard went 2-for-4 with four RBI and his first career home run.
Starter Jeb Bargfeldt went five innings and gave up five earned runs on nine hits.
TCU got on the board with an unearned run in the bottom of the first. Cody Jones and Connor Wanhanen led off with singles and Jones scored on a potential double play ball that was thrown away for a 1-0 lead.
The Horned Frogs added to their lead in the third. Jones led off with a walk and moved to third on a double by Wahnahen. A walk to Garrett Crain loaded the bases and Evan Skoug's sacrifice fly gave TCU a 2-0 lead. Gunnar Troutwine threw out a runner attempting to steal third for the second out, but Dane Steinhagen singled to right field to drive in Crain for a 3-0 lead.
Tanner Dearman reached on an error to lead off the fourth inning and moved to third on a double to right field from Mikel Mucha. With two outs, Sam Hilliard singled up the middle to drive in Dearman and Mucha to cut the lead to 3-2.
TCU used two walks and two hits to score three more runs in the fifth for a 6-2 lead.
Ryan Tinkham led off the seventh with a double and scored on a two-run home run to right-center from Hilliard to cut the lead to 6-4.
TCU answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh. Skoug led off with a double and moved to third on a groundout. With two outs, he scored on a passed ball to increase the TCU lead to 7-4.
The Horned Frogs tacked another run on in the eighth for the final 8-4 score.
The Shockers and Horned Frogs wrap up the series on Sun., March 29 at 1 p.m.
