FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 2 TCU scored five runs in the first inning in a 14-1 win over Wichita State in game one of a three-game series.

Mikel Mucha went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Shockers, while Ryan Tinkham went 2-for-4 with a double.

Starter Sam Hilliard took the loss. He went four innings and gave up six earned runs on seven hits.

Cody Jones led off the bottom of the first with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. After a walk to Garrett Crain, Evan Skoug doubled to right field to score Jones for a 1-0 lead. Dane Steinhagen followed with a single to score Crain and Michael Landestoy drove in Skoug with a bases loaded walk. TCU finished the scoring with a two-run single from Nolan Brown to put the Horned Frogs in front 5-0.

The Shockers got on the board in the top of the third. Tanner Kirk was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and pinch runner Trey Vickers advanced to second on a TCU error. Vickers scored on Mikel Mucha's two-out double to cut the lead to 5-1.

The Horned Frogs added to their lead in the fourth. Zach Plunkett walked with one out and moved to third after Cody Jones reached on an error. Both runners scored on Keaton Jones' single to give TCU a 7-1 lead.

TCU scored five more runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh.

The Shockers and Horned Frogs play game two of the series on Sat., March 28 at 2 p.m.
