Box Score WICHITA, Kan. – No. 14 UC Santa Barbara evened the series with a 6-3 win over Wichita State in game two.
Mikel Mucha went 3-for-4 with two runs, while Chase Rader went 1-for-3 with a home run.
Starter Isaac Anderson went 3.2 innings and gave up five runs on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
The Gauchos took a quick lead with a run in the top of the first. Cameron Newell singled with one out and moved to third on a double from Woody Woodward. Newell scored on a groundout from Robby Nesovic to give UCSB a 1-0 lead.
The Shockers answered in the bottom of the first. Mikel Mucha singled with one out and moved to second on a single up the middle from Daniel Kihle. Both runners advanced on a balk and Mucha scored on a fielding error by the Gauchos to tie the score at one.
Mucha led off the third with a single and with one out, he scored on Ryan Tinkham's down the left field line to put the Shocks in front 2-1.
UCSB answered with four runs in the fourth. Luke Swenson led off with a walk and scored on a one-out double from Pete Maris to tie the score at two. Campbell Wear drove in Maris with a single and a two-out double from Andrew Calica scored Wear for a 4-2 lead. Newell followed with a RBI single to increase the lead to 5-2.
Chase Rader homered to left-center in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 5-3.
The Gauchos got that run back in the top of the seventh. With the bases loaded and no outs, Nesovic singled to drive in a run and put UCSB up 6-3.
The Shockers and Gauchos wrap up the series on Sun., March 15 at 1 p.m.
