Box Score LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State used six strong innings from Tanner Brown to defeat Wichita State 5-2 in game two of a three-game series.
Starter Isaac Anderson went six innings and gave up three earned runs on five hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
Sam Hilliard went 2-for-4 with a run, while Ryan Tinkham went 2-for-3 with a double.
Zack Domingues led off the bottom of the first with a single and a Shocker error put runners at first and second with one out. A wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position and Nolan Meadows doubled to left field to drive in both for a 2-0 lead.
The Dirtbags added another run in the second. Brock Lundquist doubled to lead off the inning, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly from Nico Maida to increase the Dirtbag lead to 3-0.
The Shockers got on the board in the top of the third courtesy of some Dirtbag miscues. Tanner Kirk and Michael Burns both reached on errors and a groundout from Tanner Dearman scored Kirk to cut the lead to 3-1.
With one out in the fifth, Tristan Mercadel singled and stole second and with two outs scored on a single from Garrett Hampson to increase the LBSU lead to 4-1.
Sam Hilliard led off the seventh with a single and moved to third on a double to left field from Ryan Tinkham. Hilliard scored on a groundout from Jordan Farris to cut the lead to 4-2.
LBSU answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh with no hits. The Dirtbags scored a run on two walks, a hit by pitch and an error to go in front 5-2.
The Shockers and Dirtbags wrap up the series at 3 p.m. (CT) on Sun., March 1.
