WICHITA, Kan. – Omaha scored two runs in the top of the ninth to beat Wichita State 6-4.

Sam Hilliard went 3-for-5 with two RBI, while Jordan Farris went 3-for-5 with a RBI.

Reliever Willie Schwanke went five shutout innings and allowed zero hits with three strikeouts. Reliever Taylor Goshen took the loss after allowing two unearned runs in the ninth.

The Shockers took a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. With two outs, Sam Hilliard singled to left-center and stole second to move into scoring position. Ryan Tinkham followed with a double down the right field line to score Hilliard and Jordan Farris singled to centerfield to score Tinkham for a 2-0 lead.

WSU added to the lead in the second. Trey Vickers led off with a walk and moved to third on a double to right-center from Mikel Mucha. With two outs, Hilliard singled through the right side to score both for a 4-0 lead.

The Mavs tied it with four runs in the top of the third. UNO used two hits, two walks, two wild pitches, an error and a sacrifice fly to tie it at four.

Omaha got a leadoff bunt single in the ninth and after a sacrifice bunt and two walks, Ryan Cate hit a grounder to short and the throw home was wide of the plate to allow the Mavs to go in front 5-4. A sacrifice fly increased the lead to 6-4.

The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Feb. 27 at Long Beach State.
