BSB: Shocks Win Home Opener, 14-1

WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State scored 14 runs on 17 hits in its home opener on its way to a 14-1 win over Texas State.

Tanner Dearman went 2-for-3 with four RBI and a triple, while Ryan Tinkham went 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Starter Sam Tewes earned the win. He went six innings and gave up one run on three hits with no walks and five strikeouts.

The Bobcats jumped on the board in the top of the first. With one out Cedric Vallieres was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a single up the middle from Granger Studdard. With two outs, Ben McElroy singled up the middle to drive in Vallieres for a 1-0 lead.

The Shockers jumped in front with a seven-run third inning. Willie Schwanke led off with a single and after a Bobcat error, Mikel Mucha walked to load the bases. Tanner Dearman singled up the middle to score two and Daniel Kihle singled to drive in another for a 3-1 lead. Sam Hilliard and Ryan Tinkham followed with singles and Schwanke had another hit in the inning to put WSU up 7-1.

WSU added on two more in the fourth. Tinkham's two-run single drove in Dearman and Kihle for a 9-1 lead.

Kirk doubled in Rader with one out in the fifth for a 10-1 lead and Dearman tripled to drive in two more for a 12-1 lead. Kihle's sacrifice fly increased the lead to 13-1.

The Shockers added another run in the eighth for the final 14-1 score.
