Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Left fielder Daniel Kihle threw out the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh to help Wichita State hang on to beat Sam Houston State 4-3 in game two of a three-game series.
Chase Rader went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a home run, while Zach Reding went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a home run.
Starter Isaac Anderson earned the win as he pitched six innings and gave up three runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Sam Hilliard earned the save with three shutout innings.
The Shockers used a two-out rally to get on the board in the top of the second. With two outs, Chase Rader singled to left field and Zach Reding followed with a home run to right field for a 2-0 Shocker lead.
WSU added to the lead in the top of the fourth. With one out, Ryan Tinkham reached on a Bearkat error and Chase Rader hit his first career home run as a Shocker with a two-run bomb to left-center to put the Shocks up 4-0.
The Bearkats answered back in the bottom of the fourth. Hayden Simerly walked with one out and a two-run home run from Spence Rahm pulled SHSU to within 4-2. Ryan Brinley made it two-straight home runs with a solo shot to right field to cut the Shocker lead to 4-3.
The Shockers and Bearkats wrap up the series at 1 p.m. on Sun., Feb. 15.
