WSU Announces 2016 Hall of Fame Class

WICHITA, Kan. – Conor Gillaspie (Baseball) and Emily Stockman (Volleyball) have been selected as the 2016 Class of the Wichita State Pizza Hut Shocker Sports Hall of Fame.
 
Both earned multiple All-Valley honors and All-American honors at Wichita State before going on to play professionally.
 
The induction ceremony is scheduled for halftime of Wichita State's Jan. 23 men's basketball game against Bradley, while a meet and greet is set for 6 p.m., with a dinner to follow at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 23 in the Charles Koch Arena Aetna Multipurpose Center.
 
Cost for the dinner is $20 per person, and paid reservations can be made online at goshockers.com around the clock, or to the Shocker Ticket Office by calling 316/978-FANS or in person at the WSU Ticket Office located on the South side of Charles Koch Arena.
 
The addition of this year's class brings the total of former coaches and student-athletes in the Hall of Fame to 135, while there are 12 at-large selections.
 
Here's a look at each 2016 inductee's success at Wichita State and professionally:
 
Conor Gillaspie, Baseball (2006-08)
 
Finished his Wichita State career with a .362 batting average, 286 hits, 167 runs, 58 doubles, 15 triples, 24 home runs, 212 RBI and 33 stolen bases…A multiple All-American selection in 2008, Gillaspie also was All-Valley first team three seasons (2006-08) and was named to the NCAA Regional All-Tournament team three postseasons, as well, including the MVP in 2008…He was named to the MVC All-Tournament team in 2007 and 2008, and named the MVC Tournament MVP in 2008… Was also named ABCA All-Midwest Region in 2008…He played on three NCAA Tournament teams and two NCAA Super Regional teams…Was a third-team ABCA and Collegiate Baseball All-American in 2008, and also second team by Baseball America… Is listed in the top-25 in seven Shocker career statistical categories at the time of his induction including 12th in doubles, 13th in triples, 14th in batting average, 18th in RBI, 20th in total bases, 21st in slugging percentage and 21st in hits…Was a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American in 2006…Made his Major League debut on Sept. 9, 2008 with the San Francisco Giants and has played in the Major Leagues for the Giants, Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Angels.
 
Emily Stockman, Volleyball (2007-09)
 
Finished her Wichita State career with 1,362 kills, 3,702 attack attempts, a .240 hitting percentage, 108 service aces, 1,186 digs and 184 blocks…A two-time honorable mention All-American in 2008 and 2009, Stockman helped the Shockers to three-straight NCAA Tournaments…She was also named first-team All-Region in 2008 and 2009…A three-time first-team All-Valley selection, she was also Player of the Year in 2008…She was named to the MVC All-Tournament team in 2008 and 2009…Earned a school record eight MVC Player of the Week honors…An outstanding student-athlete, she was also chosen to the 2008 and 2009 MVC Scholar-Athlete team…She led the Shockers to an undefeated regular-season at 29-0 in 2008 and a No. 9 national ranking…Is listed in the top-10 in nine Shocker career statistical categories at the time of her induction including second in double-doubles, fourth in kills, fourth in attack attempts, 10th in digs, fourth in points, first in kills per set, sixth in aces per set, fifth in digs per set and first in points per set…She went on to play professionally in the European Indoor League and currently plays professional beach volleyball on the AVP tour.
